BOLIVAR, Mo.— Drury completed their opening weekend 2-0 with a 92-87 win over Trevecca Nazarene on the second day of the SBU Tipoff Classic in Bolivar, Missouri, on Saturday.
Panthers forward
Juok Riak had 28 points, and the freshman from Madison, Wisconsin, and We Are United Prep, went 10 for 11 from the field and hit his lone three-point attempt.
Drury and Trevecca Nazarene were deadlocked at 84-84 with 2:08 remaining, but the Panthers outscored the Trojans 8-3 to close out the game.
DU sophomore
Logan Applegate added 15 points, and
Adam Moore came off the bench to add 14, including a three-pointer that put his team ahead by four, 88-84, with 1:10 remaining.
The Panthers were efficient, hitting 59 percent of the field goal attempts, going 35 of 59 and 9 for 20 from three-point range for 45 percent. Trevecca Nazarene also shot 59 percent, hitting 32 of 54 shots, and they were 10 for 20 from behind the arc. Both teams made 13 free throws, but Drury had a 31-25 advantage in rebounds and pulled down 10 offensive boards to Trevecca Nazarene's five. The Panthers outscored the Trojans 14-3 in second-chance points.
Jamal Cannady had 19 points to lead Trevecca Nazarene, while Pete Lambesis, Jr. had 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Drury improved to 2-0 to start the season, and the Trojans dropped to 1-1.
The Panthers play their home opener on Tuesday when they host the University of the Ozarks at 5:45 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
