Panthers travel to Illinois Springfield in GLVC Quarterfinals
Drury Men's Soccer opens the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament against Illinois Springfield in the quarterfinal round this Sunday at 2 pm.
The Panthers finished the regular season with a record of 4-8-5 and a conference record of 4-6-3. Drury has now made the GLVC Tournament in four of the last five seasons and for the third year in a row.
The Prairie Stars ended with a record of 11-1-5 and a conference record of 10-0-3. Illinois Springfield currently is the 10
th ranked team in the nation.
The Panthers have a record of 2-3 in their last five games, with wins against William Jewell and Southwest Baptist. Drury will enter Sunday's game coming off a 2-0 defeat at the hands of McKendree. Illinois Springfield has a record of 3-0-2 in their last five, with wins against Rockhurst, Lewis, and Missouri-St. Louis. The Prairie Stars have not lost a game in their last 13 matches.
John Clout leads the Panthers with three goals and two assists, for eight points. Freshman forward,
Lui Bull, has three goals and an assist for Drury. Sophomore
J.J. Adikwu has also tallied three goals on the season for the Panthers.
Jason Puente leads the Panthers with four assists, along with one goal scored for the season.
The game will be the deciding mark in an all-time series that currently rests at 6-6-4. The Panthers will have to travel to Springfield, Illinois for the second time this season. The Prairie Stars defeated the Panthers in their October 8
th matchup 2-0. Illinois Springfield outshot the Panthers 11-4 and Drury tallied 3 shots on goal for the game. The goals for the Prairie Stars were scored by Riccardo Sandulli and Adrian Adames.
The winner of the contest will take on the winner from the Maryville and McKendree game. The winners will travel to East Peoria, Illinois to play each other on November 10th.
Kickoff for Sunday's game will be at 2 pm in Springfield, Illinois and will be streamed live on GLVCSN.
