BOLIVAR, Mo. – Drury swept Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader on Sunday, winning game one 5-1, then closed the day with a 7-0 shutout in the second game.
The Panthers improved to 17-15 and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats went to 8-24 and 2-4 in the GLVC.
Drury took a 4-0 lead in the first two innings of game one and
Kristina Bettis held Southwest Baptist to one run and two hits in the opening game of the doubleheader.
The Panthers scored two runs in the first, scoring on a ground ball by
Reagan Hight, then on a single by
Victoria Garland. Drury went up by four runs an inning later on
Rylee Kolb's two-run home run. Kolb added an RBI double in the sixth and finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs.
Bettis (10-7) got the win going seven innings, allowing two hits and one run with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Drury shut out the Bearcats in game two in a 7-0 win.
Lindsay Henson (3-4) picked up the win going 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Karsyn Smith pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings to complete the shutout.
The Panthers scored a run in the first on a two-out, RBI-single by
Victoria Garland, then opened up the lead with four runs in the fourth. Garland started the frame with a solo home run to left.
Summer Johnson then belted a two-run homer, and
Meagan Mullaney capped the frame with an RBI double. Mullaney added a two-run shot in the sixth to put Drury in front 7-0. She finished the contest going 3 for 4 with three RBI's.
Sunday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed by one day due to wet grounds.
Drury returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Rockhurst for a conference doubleheader in Kansas City, Missouri.
