QUINCY, Ill.— Eighth-ranked Quincy banged out 17 hits on their way to a 12-5 win over Drury on Friday in Quincy, Illinois.
The Panthers fell to 27-20 and 17-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Hawks went to 33-9 and 20-5 in the league.
The two teams went back and forth early as Drury scored a run in the first inning on a single by
Luke Burk, but that was answered by two Quincy runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Panthers tied the game at 2-2 in the second on a ground ball by
Cooper Munro that scored
Luc Fuller, but the Hawks retook the lead on a solo home run by Adam Lewis, then a two-run shot by Austin Simpson, his 15
th of the year, in the third gave Quincy a 5-2 advantage.
Drury pulled within three, scoring twice in the seventh to trail 7-4, but the Hawks put the game out of reach with a five-run bottom of the seventh.
Quincy starter Spencer Walker (7-1) got the win, while
Cody Bahl (6-2) took the loss for the Panthers.
Carson Shaver went 3 for 4 at the plate for Drury and had two doubles with an RBI. Lance Logsdon was 3 for 5 for the Hawks while driving in five runs.
The four-game series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon in Quincy, Illinois.
