Panthers begin conference play with tough home opponents
The Panthers begin their 2023 conference season this weekend against Lewis and Indianapolis. Drury plays Lewis at 7:30 pm on Friday at the Lake Country Soccer Complex, then 18th ranked Indianapolis on Sunday at 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium.

Drury is coming off a 3-1 loss at Southern Nazarene where midfielder Gage Vehr scored the first goal of his collegiate career. Lewis is coming off a goalless draw with Northern Michigan and has only scored one goal in three matches so far this season. Indianapolis has started the season hot, winning their opening two matches and staying unbeaten after drawing with Christian Brothers 1-1. Niklas Thanhofer leveled the game for the Greyhounds in the 63rd minute to preserve Indianapolis's unbeaten start.

Freshman midfielders Jude Rodwell and Gage Vehr both had goals for the Panthers last week, with Rodwell supplying the assist to Vehr's strike. Sophomore goalkeeper Camden Meyer has started all four contests between the sticks, stopping 18 shots and keeping one clean sheet.

Lewis has only scored one goal in their first three matches. Junior forward Godwin Asore had the lone goal for the Flyers while junior goalkeeper Sebastian Doppelhofer has made eight saves and has had a shutout in two of the three matches. Doppelhofer, the reigning co-GLVC Defensive Player of the Year is the only All-GLVC selection that the Flyers return.

Indianapolis is led by senior forward Michael Tselios who has one goal and one assist. Sophomore forwards Kabiru Gafar and Jona Hogle as well as freshman forward Carl Ringtrom each have a goal apiece. Graduate goalkeeper Kieran Brown has made seven saves and has one shutout. The Greyhounds return three All-GLVC selections from last season in Tselios (Second Team), and Gafar (Third Team), as well as junior Pierre Lurot, a first-team defender.

Following the two games, the Panthers will travel to #8 Maryville and Missouri S&T next week. The Panthers and Saints will square off on Friday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m., and the Miners and Panthers kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.
