Panthers open season at Bahama House Labor Day Classic

DAYTONA, Fla– The Panthers kicked off their season in the Bahama House Labor Day Classic on Friday with losses to #20 Wingate and Augusta.

Drury came up just short in a scrappy opening game against 20th ranked Wingate 3-1. The Panthers started strong, winning a tight opening set and resisting a late surge from the Bulldogs.

The second set proved to be just as taxing, thanks to clutch play from both teams. The Bulldogs would ultimately pull away to win the frame 31-29. Wingate would go on to win the next two sets and close out the match.

Juliana Squire led Drury with 15 kills, while Stormi Tadlock added 13 of her own. Kayli Duncan led the Panthers with 4 blocks and Lauren Tyler put up 34 assists.

Lorna Stacherski led with 15 kills for Wingate and Maya Van Heyst added 21 assists for the Bulldogs.

Game two saw the Panthers fall to Augusta 3-0 after a closely contested first set. Salma Lewis tallied 4 aces and put up 11 digs for Drury.

Jazmyn Wheeler and Kayli Cleaver led Augusta with 13 kills each, while Janvier Buggs added 20 assists for the Jaguars.
