SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Sophomore
Reese Schaaf posted her sixth double-double of the season and her third in a row on Saturday afternoon and had a career-best scoring performance in helping drive the Drury Lady Panthers to a 101-64 win over the Missouri S&T Miners at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Schaaf was virtually impossible to stop as she hit 12 of 15 shot attempts from the field en route to a career-high 29 points. She also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as the Lady Panthers posted their best offensive effort in over two months in moving to 11-4 overall and to 6-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
"Reese is just playing at a different level right now," said Drury head coach
Kaci Bailey. "It's her mindset, she just really wants it. We see it every day in practice and she's playing very composed at both ends of the floor."
The Lady Panthers grabbed control of the game in the opening half, outscoring the Miners 53-32, then came close to matching those numbers after the break to roll to the win.
"I thought we responded and set the tone really well today and that was our speech at halftime, not to let down and I think we showed that," added Bailey.
Along with the performance from Schaaf, Drury received an equally stellar showing from
Caitlynn Daniels. The junior finished with 23 points, but also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out a team-best eight assists.
Graduate student Beth Matas-Martin finished with 15 points to give the Lady Panthers a third player in double figures. Collectively, the Schaaf, Daniels, Matas-Martin trio went 27 of 36 shooting from the floor for the game.
The Miners were led in scoring by Katelynne Roberts and Norah Gum, who each had 12 points. With the loss, Missouri S&T fell to 3-14 overall and 0-9 in GLVC play.
The Lady Panthers return to action Thursday, January 18th for a 5:00 pm game at Upper Iowa.
