ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drury Women's Soccer bows out of the GLVC postseason with a 2-1 loss to McKendree.
The first half was slow for the Panthers. McKendree came out on the offensive end aggressively, taking six shots in the first half. After peppering
Katy Fitzler and the Panthers' defense, McKendree broke way in the 35th minute with a goal from Lena Higgins from Anna Stiffler. Six minutes later, the Bearcats found nylon again with a Stiffler goal from Maddie Mauch following a corner kick.
With Drury down two goals at the break,
Justin Olson made a change in the lineup with
Bella Hernandez and Kiera Love getting the second-half start. The change in the lineup sparked the Panthers offense. Hernadez was able to get two shots before
Holland Hawkins found the net in the 68th minute. The goal was assisted by Love. Following the goal, Drury picked up the pace to find the equalizer but was unable to cross the line in the final 22 minutes.
Bella Hernandez led the team in shots with two, both in the second half. Hawkins' goal was her third of the season against McKendree.
Keira Love's assist was her first career assist and point.
Katy Fitzler made two saves for the Panthers. The two goals Fitzler gave up were the most she has given up since their September 29th loss to Maryville in a game.
Drury currently ranked fourth in the NCAA-II Midwest Region, will await their fate when the NCAA releases the pairings for the national tournament on Monday, November 18, at 6 pm.
