Volleyball prepares for final homestand of regular season
The Drury Panthers play William Jewell for Senior Day on Friday and Rockhurst for the final home game of the season.
Â
The Panthers swept Southwest Baptist last Saturday to pick up their second win in a row. With four games left in the season every game is important for Drury, who is currently sitting two spots outside the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) postseason. The Panthers have not lost to William Jewell since 2015. On the flip side, Rockhurst is 7-3 against Drury in the last 10 matchups with four of them going to five sets.
Kayli Duncan still sits in the top 10 in blocks per set in the NCAA with 1.38. Duncan and
Kaitlin Fasbender are both top ten in the GLVC in hitting percentage.
Â
William Jewell comes to the O' Friday for Senior Day. The Cardinals are currently riding a six-game losing streak. The last win for Jewell was on October 18 against Saginaw Valley State as part of the Midwest Region Crossover. The Cardinals are led by Bella LaPorta. LaPorta is fourth in the GLVC in points per set at 4.61. William Jewell sits at the bottom of the conference standings with a 1-9 league record.
Â
On Saturday, Rockhurst comes to Springfield for the second time of the season. The Hawks play at Southwest Baptist on Friday before coming play Drury. Drury and Rockhurst have yet to play this season, but the Hawks have played four games in the O'Reilly Family Event Center this season when they took part in the Drury Invitational in early September. Rockhurst is currently receiving votes in the national poll and are on a nine-game winning streak. Their most recent win came against at the time ranked 18
th Quincy. The Hawks upset Quincy in four sets. The two wins last weekend for Rockhurst led to two GLVC players of the week with Sarah Pyle and Maureen Reilly.
Â
Following the game against Rockhurst, Drury hits the road for the final weekend of the season against McKendree and Missouri – St. Louis.
