Drury faces Quincy in second home game this week
Drury continues their three-game homestand this week as they take on Quincy on Thursday night at 7:45 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
The Panthers are 5-1 and winners of four straight. Monday, they opened conference play with an 86-67 win over Southwest Baptist at home.
Quincy is 3-4, 0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and is coming off a 93-67 loss at 21st ranked Upper Iowa on Monday.
Drury will be looking for their first win over the Hawks since 2019, as Quincy has won five straight against the Panthers. Drury's last win over Quincy was an 86-59 win over the Hawks on Jan. 31, 2019.
The Panthers are led by
Zach Howell, averaging 17.7 points, and the sophomore from Springfield-Catholic is shooting 48 percent from three-point range, hitting 21 for 44 from behind the arc.
Drury's homestand continues after Thursday's game with a Saturday afternoon contest against Truman State at 3 pm in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Getting Defensive
The Panthers have allowed more than 70 points only once in their first six games. Drury has held teams to 54 points in two games and, on Nov. 27 against Central Missouri, allowed just 49 points. Their defensive effort that night was the fewest points Drury has surrendered in 10 years. The Panthers are giving up an average of 61.7 points per game.
About the Hawks
Quincy is led by head coach Brad Hoyt, who is in his first year guiding the Hawks. Hoyt came to Quincy after serving as head coach at John Logan Community College for 13 seasons. He put together a record of 257-156 during that tenure while his teams made four national tournament appearances.
Max Booher leads Quincy in scoring, averaging 13.8 points and is shooting 52 percent from three-point range, hitting 13 of 25 attempts.
Quincy started the season with losses to Findlay and Cedarville, then won three straight with wins over Hannibal-LaGrange, Missouri Southern and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
