Drury women's swimming won their 8th GLVC title in 11 years
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The Drury women's swimming & diving captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Saturday and the men's squad finished third in a tightly contested battle at the GLVC Championships at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Drury women's squad won the title with 1,867 points and finished ahead of Indianapolis' total of 1,792. McKendree was third with 1,125 points. The championship marks the eighth conference title in 11 years for the Drury women's swim team.
Indianapolis won the men's championship with 1,512.5 points to finish just ahead of McKendree's total of 1,499.5, and the Panthers were just 22.5 points back with 1,490 points.
Women's Highlights
- The Panthers had four of the top five finishers in the 100 Free. Josie Bushell and Ashlyn Moore tied for second (50.48), Kasia Rogowska was fourth (50.86) and Mariana Alencar finished fifth (51.06)
- Lexi Waller won the 200 Back with a time of 1:57.97
- Drury finished 2-3-4 in the 200 Breaststroke as Mellie Wijk was the runner-up (2:14.09), Claire Conover was third (2:15.53), and Gwen Bergum came in fourth (2:17.05)
- The Panthers closed the championship with a win in the 400 Free Relay. Rogowska, Bushell, Wijk, and Moore posted a time of 3:21.98 and won by nearly two seconds.
Men's Highlights
The Drury swim teams will host a Last Chance qualifying meet on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 1 pm in the Breech Pool, then will prepare for the NCAA-II Championships, March 12-16 in Geneva, Ohio
