SMYRNA, Tenn. – The Drury Panthers finished the final day of the Music City Invitational with a 13-8 win against Gannon and a 9-5 loss against Cedarville.
Drury started their game against Gannon down by a seemingly insurmountable eight runs after three innings of play. Drury then found a spark in the bottom of the third with a bases-clearing triple from
AJ Agers. The Panthers would score seven runs in the inning, with RBI hits from
Lauren Beier,
Sophia Luetticke, and
Maggie McKee. The Panthers tied it in the sixth after an RBI single from
Brooklyn LaChappa scored
Taylor Hartsell.
Kaley Adzick would put Drury on top in the eighth, driving in
Gracie Thomas with a single to make it a 9-8.
The Panthers put the finishing touches on the comeback when LaChappa slapped an inside-the-park homer, scoring McKee, Adzick, and Hartsell. Drury was strong on the mound in the final innings of the game, protecting the lead and taking the victory with a final score of 13-8.
Bailee Nixon earned the win for the Panthers, while Maggie Lenda took the loss for Gannon.
Drury would start hot in game two against Cedarville, scoring in the first inning on a single from
Taylor Hartsell to take a 1-0 lead. Cedarville scored their first run in the third with a sac-fly that made it a 1-1 game. The Panthers offense scored four runs on hits from
Maggie McKee,
Brooklyn LaChappa, and
Rylee Kolb. Cedarville responded in the fifth inning, exploding for eight runs to make it 9-5.
Adaline Johnson got the win for Cedarville, not allowing a run in three innings of work.
Kristina Bettis took the loss for the Panthers.
Drury will travel to Evansville, Indiana, next week for the Blue Bridge Battle tournament. The Panthers will take on Northwood in their first game at 12 pm on Friday.
