Panthers open GLVC Championships with record-setting performance in women's 800 Free Relay

EVANSVILLE, Ind.— The Drury women's swimming & diving team opened the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships with a win and a record-setting performance in the 800 Free Relay, while the men's team finished third in the event at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana, on Tuesday.
 
The Drury women's 800 Free Relay team won the event with a time of 7:16.92, besting a GLVC record the Panthers set last by nearly three seconds. Ellie Walker, Ashlyn Moore, Mellie Wijk, and Josie Bushell combined for the win, and all four were on last year's team that set the previous mark. McKendree was second in the event, and Indianapolis was third.
 
The Drury men's 800 Free Relay team came in third. Yuri Cabral, Ivan Adamchuk, Joao Nogueria, and Matteo Vissotto posted a time of 6:31.17. McKendree finished first, and Indianapolis was second in the event.
 
The 800 Free Relay started the conference championship meet and was the only event scheduled on Tuesday.
 
Complete results and team points were not made available Tuesday night.
 
The GLVC Swimming & Diving championships continue on Wednesday with the preliminaries of the women's 200 Individual Medley at 10 am. One-meter diving is included in Wednesday's schedule at 12:30 pm, and finals get underway at 5:30 pm. The championships conclude on Saturday night.
