Drury women's team in first, men's squad in second at GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind.— The Drury women's swimming & diving team is in the lead and the men's squad is in second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana on Wednesday.
 
The Drury women's team has 513 points and leads Indianapolis by 78 points. McKendree is in third with 299 points.
 
The DU men's team is in second place but is just seven points out of first. Indianapolis leads with 460 points and the Panthers are right behind the Greyhounds with 453. McKendree is also in the championship hunt and in third with 413 points.
 
Women's Highlights
  • Drury dominated the 200 Individual Medley, winning the top four positions and took six of the top nine spots. Mellie Wijk won the event (1:59.90), Claire Conover was second (2:01.44), Luisa Machao finished third (2:02.18), and Gwen Bergum was fourth (2:03.73).
  • Kasia Rogowska was second in the 50 Free with a time of 22.95, while Ashlyn Moore was third (22.97)
  • The Panthers finished the night taking the gold medal in the 200 Medley Relay in a race decided by 0.06 seconds. Lexie Waller, Claire Conover, Anastasiia Yermishyna, and Kasia Rogowska posted a time of 1:47.37, just ahead of Indianapolis.
 
Men's Highlights
  • Cole Earl, a fifth year senior out of Springfield-Glendale, finished second in the one-meter diving competition, finishing with 559 points
  • Ivan Adamchuk broke the GLVC record and won the 200 Individual Medley. The freshman from Belarus set the meet record in the preliminary heats earlier in the day with a time of 1:47.17, then topped that mark in the finals by nearly two seconds posting a time of 1:45.36.
  • The Panthers were third in the 200 Medley Relay as Viktor Khnykin, Davi Mourao, Alejandro Villarejo, and Lucas Mineur combined for a time of 1:26.88. Indianapolis won with a meet-record time of 1:24.90
 
 
The GLVC Swimming & Diving Championships continue on Thursday morning at 10 am with the preliminary heats of the 100 Butterfly. The conference championship meet concludes on Saturday.
