ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Drury split a doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday to take three of four games on the opening weekend of play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers won the first game 11-2 and dropped a one-run decision in game two, 7-6.
Drury improved to 5-8 and 3-1 in the GLVC, while the Tritons ended the day 9-8 and 1-3 in the league.
In game one, the Panthers blew open a 2-0 lead with five runs in the fourth inning. After
Landon Willbrand drove in a run with an RBI single,
Max Elmer's triple scored three more runs to give Drury a 6-0 lead. Conner Bain's bunt then scored Elmer to give Drury a 7-0 advantage.
Elmer finished the game with five RBIs from the lead-off position and
Wes Collins went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Cade Waits pitched a complete-game for the win going seven innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs with three walks and six strikeouts.
Missouri-St. Louis rallied from a 6-3 deficit to win game two, 7-6. The Tritons tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, then won the game with a run in the ninth.
UMSL loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and won the game on a throwing error that scored Jordan Aguallo from third base.
Briar Stinson led Drury's offense, going 3 for 5 at the plate with a double, two runs and two RBIs.
The Panthers are idle until Friday, March 15, when they start a four-game series against Missouri S&T at 3 pm at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
