3/10/2024 8:57:00 PM

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury Panthers softball squad fell to Augustana in both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Thompson Field in Springfield.

In game one, Kristina Bettis took the mound for the Panthers, tossing seven innings and striking out five Viking hitters.

Drury jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after a long homer off the bat of Taylor Hartsell soared over the center field fence. It was Hartsell's second homerun in the last three games for the Panthers.

The Panthers found life again in the fifth, after a two out double by Rylee Kolb put Drury within striking distance. Drury catcher Gracie Thomas would take care of the rest, slapping a single to score Kolb and give Drury a 3-0 lead after five innings of play.

The Vikings would tie the game in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a homerun off the bat of Torri Chute. The game would stay tied until Augustana exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning, taking a 10-3 lead that they would hold for the win.

Haley Grimmius took the win for the Vikings, while Kristina Bettis received the loss for Drury.

The Vikings offense remained hot in game two, scoring five runs in the first two innings on their way to a 9-0 win.

Lexi Lander (2-2) got the win for Augustana, while AJ Agers (2-4) took the loss for Drury. The Vikings moved to 10-6 on the season, while the Panthers moved to 10-12.

The final game of the series will take place tomorrow at Thompson Field in Meador Park. First pitch will be at noon.
