Panthers split doubleheader at Emporia State

EMPORIA, KS. – Drury softball split two games of a doubleheader on the road against Emporia State on Wednesday.
 
The Panthers were able to take down the Hornets with a score of 3-1 in the first game, falling with a final of 6-3 in game two.
 
Game one saw the Panthers score the first runs of the contest in the third inning, with Drury outfielder Rylee Kolb, doubling to right field to score Brooklyn LaChappa. The Drury offense wasn't done, with Taylor Hartsell driving in Kolb with a single to right field to quickly give Drury a 2-0 lead.
 
The Hornets would score a run in the fourth inning, but Drury would add some insurance in the sixth with a LaChappa single, scoring AJ Agers. The Panthers would go on to close out the game and win with a final score of 3-1.
 
AJ Agers tossed 3.1 innings, allowing only one run against 14 batters faced. Kristina Bettis would get the win for the Panthers, allowing one hit and striking out six batters.
 
Game two saw the Panthers strike first once again, with an AJ Agers single that scored Taylor Hartsell and Lauren Beier. The Hornets would quickly respond, adding a run in the second inning to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
 
Drury would score once more in the fifth, after a throwing error from the Hornets allowed Maggie McKee to score and give the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Emporia State would climb back into the game after scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Hornets ultimately pulled away in the sixth, scoring two more runs and holding the lead to win with a final of 6-3.
 
Wednesday's contests moved Drury to a record of 13-13 on the season, while Emporia State now sits at 17-10. The Panthers will now return home on Saturday to take on Lewis for a doubleheader at Thompson Field in Meador Park. First pitch will be thrown at noon, with game two following immediately after game one.
