Panthers split doubleheader with Missouri S&T

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury split games of a doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Saturday at Mark Worley Field. The Panthers fell in game one with a score of 11-5 and won the second game 14-2.
 
In game one, the Missouri S&T Miners were able to find their form after being held to just three hits in yesterday's loss to the Panthers. The Miners found life early, scoring three runs in the first inning. By the top of the third inning, the Miners held a 7-0 lead over the Panthers. Drury would tack on two runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Wes Collins and a Luke Burk hit by pitch, scoring Connor Bain.
 
Missouri S&T remained hot at the plate, scoring in the fifth and seventh innings to make it an 11-3 ballgame. Drury would mount a late rally in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring two runs before ultimately falling with a final of 11-5.
 
Ethan Morrow (2-2) got the win for the Miners, tossing four innings and allowing three earned runs. Wesley Laaker (1-3) received the loss for the Panthers.
 
The Panthers struck back with force in game two, scoring a run in the first inning before adding four runs in the third. Drury outfielder Wes Collins drove in a run and was then knocked in along with Connor Bain, after a Luke Burk big fly to right field. Drury added five more runs in the fifth, with homers from Kaden Byrne and another from Luke Burk. The long homerun to centerfield was Burk's 7th homerun of the season and gave Drury a 10-1 lead after four innings of play.
 
Drury saw strong performances on the mound from Cade Waits and Luc Fuller, combining for just two runs allowed. Waits (3-0) received the win for the Panthers, tossing five innings and striking out three batters. Fuller threw two innings in relief and shut down any late rally from the Miners, securing a 14-2 win for Drury.
 
The Panthers are now 7-9 on the season, with a record of 5-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Miners moved to 10-10 with a record of 1-6 in conference action.
 
Drury and Missouri S&T will conclude their series tomorrow with a single 9 inning game at Mark Worley Field, with first pitch being thrown at 12 pm.
