SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Drury stunned Missouri Southern with an 8-0 win in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader, then fell 14-5 in the second game on Tuesday at Thompson Field in Springfield.
In game one,
Kristina Bettis recorded the third no-hitter of her career, and the Panthers scored all eight of their runs in the fifth inning.
Drury took advantage of three Missouri Southern errors in the fifth and built a 4-0 lead on RBI singles by
Victoria Garland,
Brooklyn LaChappa, and
Gracie Thomas, as well as a bases-loaded walk by
Rylee Kolb.
Taylor Hartsell then ended the game with a grand slam as the Panthers went ahead 8-0 in the fifth to win by run-rule.
Kristina Bettis (1-3) got the win and pitched the third no-hitter of her career at Drury. The senior from Swansea, Illinois, went five innings, struck out seven and allowed one walk. Bettis no-hit Missouri S&T last season on April 3, and she fired a no-hitting at Rockhurst on March 14, 2022.
Missouri Southern State bounced back in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning on their way to a 14-5 win.
Drury infielder
Lauren Beier homered twice, her fifth and sixth home runs of the year, and finished the game going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs.
Kara Amos (3-1) got the win in relief for Missouri Southern and struck out seven batters in four innings. She also went 2 for 4 at the plate and belted a first-inning grand slam for the Lions to finish with 4 RBIs.
The Panthers ended the day 10-10. Missouri Southern, who ended the season last year ranked 21
st nationally, went to 16-5.
Drury returns to the field on Sunday when they take on Augustana in a doubleheader starting at noon at Thompson Field.
