SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury extended their winning streak to 12 games with a win in game one, but had the streak snapped with a game two loss as the Panthers split a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist on Sunday at Thompson Field in Springfield. Drury won the first game 4-2, then fell short in game two, 3-1.
Drury moved their record to 24-19 and 12-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats went to 17-25 and 6-12 in the GLVC.
The Panthers broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with three runs in the frame. Drury got an RBI single by
Taylor Hartsell to take a 2-1 lead, then
AJ Agers drove in two more with a base-hit.
Southwest Baptist added a run in the sixth and loaded the bases in the bases in the top of the seventh, but Drury hung on as
Kaley Adzick got a ground ball to end the game. Adzick (8-3) got the win, while Emma Kreigel (7-9) took the loss.
Agers finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs. The Bearcats stranded 10 runners in the loss.
Southwest Baptist stopped Drury's winning streak at 12 games with a 3-1 win in game two. The Bearcats took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a ground ball by Audrey Rahlman and they added another run an inning later on an RBI single by Grace Stearns.
The Panthers had nine hits and stranded nine in the loss. Drury had the tying run on base but Bearcats starter Paige Leithead (7-6) got a strikeout to end the game. Leithead got the complete-game win, while
Bailee Nixon (8-4) took the loss despite going seven innings and allowing five hits and only one earned run.
Sophia Luetticke went 3 for 4 for Drury, while
Gracie Thomas was 2 for 3 with two doubles.
Drury is back at home next Saturday when they host Rockhurst in a doubleheader starting at noon at Thompson Field.
