Panthers fall short vs. Southwest Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury's late-inning run fell short as Southwest Baptist held off the Panthers 6-4 at Mark Worley Field on Thursday.

The scoring started with Drury taking the lead in the 3rd inning on a wild pitch that scored Landon Willbrand. Southwest Baptist quickly tied things up in the 5th inning with a Dominic Tellez single to center field that brought in Raydley Legito.

Drury surged ahead again in the 6th inning on a Kellen Williamson triple to right field, bringing in Tyler Bastunas. That was followed by a long homerun off the bat of Kaden Byrne to make it a 4-1 ballgame in favor of Drury.

Southwest Baptist refused to back down, launching a comeback in the later innings. In the 6th inning, Dean Hagenhoff's homer to left center closed the score gap to 4-2. Hagenhoff struck again in the 7th inning with a double to left center that drove in three unearned runs and gave Southwest Baptist a 5-4 lead.

The momentum continued for Southwest Baptist in the 8th inning with a Colby Sneed homerun that extended their lead to 6-4, which helped seal the victory.

Drury moved to 25-21 on the season and to 22-11 in conference play, while Southwest Baptist now rests at 12-35 and 9-24 in conference.
