BOLIVAR, Mo.— Southwest Baptist hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Drury 2-1 in Bolivar on Saturday.
The Panthers dropped to 26-23 and 23-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Bearcats ended their season with a 14-38 record and an 11-25 mark in the league.
Southwest Baptist scored a run in the third inning and held the lead until Drury drew even in the sixth.
Connor Bain started the inning by reaching base on an error, then
Luke Burk's double tied the game at 1-1.
The Panthers started the top of the ninth with a single by
Kellen Williamson, but the Bearcats turned a double-play and got a strikeout to set up the bottom of the ninth. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Conner Hammonds hit a solo home run to end the game.
Drury was held to four hits in the game and limited Southwest Baptist to five.
Jack Jones returned to Drury's rotation and got a no-decision in a start that saw him strike out six batters in four innings.
Zach McKinnis (2-3) went 4.1 innings in the loss. Colin Whited (3-1) got the win in relief for SBU.
The Panthers finished the regular season in third place in the GLVC standings. Drury will open the conference tournament on Wednesday in Marion, Illinois. The league will announce the league bracket later this weekend.
