LIBERTY, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers resumed their schedule with an 88-55 win on the road at William Jewell on Friday night at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri.
Drury kept their conference record perfect as they went to 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 8-3 overall. It was Drury's first game since Dec. 21. William Jewell dropped to 3-7 and 1-3 in the league.
After taking a 20-19 lead after one quarter, the Lady Panthers outscored the Cardinals 20-6 in the second period to go up 40-25 at halftime. Drury built on their lead in the second half and were up by as much as 35 before winning the game by 33 points, which is their largest margin for a win this season.
"I thought our press was the difference as it forced them into 18 turnovers," said Drury head coach
Kaci Bailey. "We had a good week of practice coming back from the break and everyone contributed."
Caitlynn Daniels led Drury with 16 points, and she added nine assists, four steals and four rebounds.
Rhi Gibbons contributed 15 points, while
Sara Mendel had 10 points on 5 for 5 shooting from the field and had eight rebounds.
Kate Hillyer had 18 points to lead William Jewell, but 12 of her points came from the free throw line. Hillyer was the only double-figure scorer for the Cardinals.
Drury held William Jewell to 27 percent shooting as the Cardinals went 14 for 52 while the Lady Panthers made 52 percent of their shots, hitting 34 of 66. The 55 points allowed matched a season-low for the Drury defense, and the Cardinals 14 field goals were the fewest allowed by the Lady Panthers this season.
Drury continues the road trip on Saturday when they take on the Rockhurst at 3 pm in Kansas City. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but moved up a day with the threat of winter weather affecting the region.
