Lady Panthers hold off Rockhurst for win in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Drury Lady Panthers stayed unbeaten in the Great Lakes Valley Conference as they held off Rockhurst for a 67-61 win at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday.

Drury improved to 9-3 and 5-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Hawks dropped to 4-7 and 2-3 in the league.

The Lady Panthers led by nine, 65-56, with 2:20 remaining, but Rockhurst cut their deficit to four, 65-61, with 44 seconds left. Drury held the Hawks off the board down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Drury guard Caitlynn Daniels led with 20 points and added eight assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Forward Aiden Moxness had a career-high 12 points of 5 for 7 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.

"Rockhurst is better than their record, and they hit some really good shots," said Drury head coach Kaci Bailey. "It was a battle, but I'd rather have our team learn some lessons from a win rather than a loss.

"Caitylnn is playing at a high level right now. And I thought Aiden's play was huge off the bench of us today. She had to play at times with a mismatch defensively when they went to a smaller line-up, but she played well through that and gave us some scoring and some big rebounds."

Rockhurst was led by Keagan Sullivan, who finished with 14 points and nine rebounds but was 5 for 16 from the field.

Drury had 40 of their 67 points come from the paint and outscored the Hawks 40-22 in that category. The Lady Panthers held Rockhurst to 33 percent shooting as the Hawks were 20 for 60 from the field and 6 for 23 from three-point range. Drury was 27 for 59 from the floor for 46 percent.

Saturday's game was game was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon but moved up one day with the threat of a winter storm forecast for the Kansas City area.

The Lady Panthers return to the court on Jan. 9 when they travel to Lincoln for a 5:30 pm game in Jefferson City, Missouri.
