Drury Sweeps Thomas More to Open Midwest Region Crossover

HAMMOND, Ind. – Behind big performances from Lauren Tyler and Mailie Chretien, Drury volleyball swept Thomas More (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) to open Midwest Region Crossover play Friday morning at Hammond Sportsplex.

Tyler matched her own Drury single-match record for hitting percentage (.909) and dished out a season-high 35 assists to power a Panthers offense that hit a collective .386 in the contest.

Chretien delivered 20 kills to match a Drury season high, and Kim Quinit led all players with 14 digs to help the Panthers (11-6) post their third consecutive victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Drury used a pair of 5-0 scoring runs to gain control of a back-and-forth first set, then put the win away with a late burst that saw the Panthers claim 15 of the final 21 points for a commanding 25-17 final margin.
  • Thomas More responded to the first DU scoring spurt with a 6-2 run of its own to take an 11-10 advantage.
  • The Panthers came back with five unanswered points to claim the lead for good.
  • Quinit's service ace capped the run and gave DU a 15-11 lead, helping spur the late surge for the Panthers.
  • The Saints built an early edge in the second, but the Panthers won four straight points to overcome a 10-7 deficit.
  • DU, which hit .368 for the set, received a lift from Chretien's seven kills.
  • The Panthers won 18 of the final 24 points of the second to seize the 25-16 decision.
  • Drury maintained its momentum in the third set, capitalizing on .515 hitting and 16 Tyler assists on its 19 kills to pull out the decisive win.
  • Chretien added six more kills, as Drury claimed seven of the final 10 points after the Saints battled back to take a 15-14 lead.

NOTABLES

  • Tyler's .909 hitting percentage (10 kills/11 attempts) matched her Sept. 14, 2024 effort vs. Newman in which she set the DU single-match record (also recording 10 kills on 11 attempts).
  • The junior setter also eclipsed her 2025 season standard for assists with 35 in her third double-double of the season.
  • Chretien's 20 kills led all attackers in the match and came within one kill of the senior's career best (21 vs. Truman State on Oct. 4, 2024); she added nine digs and a block assist.
  • Skylar Hilton hit .583 on the day, finishing with seven kills and a pair of blocks.
  • Ella Rademaker finished with eight kills and two blocks.
  • The Panthers swept the Saints for the second consecutive season at the Midwest Region Crossover and improved to 2-1 all-time against Thomas More.
