HOLLAND, Mich. -- Drury men's rugby dropped a 42-15 decision to Aquinas College in a conference road match Saturday (Oct. 18).
The game kicked off with intense competition from both sides. However, by halftime, Aquinas was able to secure a significant lead of 25-5, and the Panthers never seriously threatened after intermission.
Throughout the match, the Panthers showcased commendable teamwork, with every eligible and healthy player getting time on the pitch. A key moment in the match was the performance of the Panthers' eight-man scrum, which, despite being undersized, excelled at the set piece.Â
Additionally,
Liam Daughtery led the line out throwing duties and performed impressively in both offensive and defensive roles. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not capitalize on their conversion tries, thanks largely to a brisk breeze.
Drury head coach
Bryan Bevel expressed his pride in the team's efforts, despite the long trip to Michigan and challenging opponent.Â
"It was a very long trip," Bevel commented. "But I am sure the boys would not trade this opportunity to continue to test themselves against the nation's best rugby sides. Our record and some of our scores truly do not reflect the effort that these men have been putting forth. I could not be more proud of the squad that we have here at Drury."
Looking ahead, the Drury Panthers will face the Springfield Rugby Football Club as part of the Jimmy Stewart Cup on Nov. 8, at the Springfield Rugby Facility.Â
