SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – It may have just been a season-opening dual, but Drury men's swimming and diving team appeared to be in mid-season form with a commanding 174 to 31 victory over Missouri S&T Saturday afternoon at Breech Pool.
The Panthers captured gold in all but two scored events, highlighted by a pair of wins by Matteo Vissotto in the 100 and 200 races, as well as a Breech Pool record by Alvaro Zornoza, who clocked a 1:48.27 in the 200 IM. Lucas Mineur captured the 50 free race and a runner-up finish in the 100 free, in addition to helping the Panthers to a relay win in the 200 medley, as Drury swept the three podium positions in eight of the 11 competitions.
"This team is loaded with experienced, senior leaders," head coach Brian Reynolds stated. "We have a number of experienced athletes who are pushing themselves and that is showing already. Alvaro broke the pool record in the 200 IM today, he trained hard all summer. A lot of these kids have elevated their game and that's exciting. They're really stressing to the freshman class and the younger athletes that we have to keep consistently grinding away everyday. So it's exciting to see and they had a really great day today."
