DALLAS — For the third day in a row at the SMU Invitational Friday,
Drury men's and women's swimming and diving went head to head with NCAA Division I competition at Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center.
Alvaro Zornoza and
Gwen Bergum turned in second-place finishes in the 100 back and 200 breast to highlight the afternoon for the Drury men's and women's programs, which finished day three in fourth and fifth place in the team standings, respectively.
Zornoza turned in a swim of 46.14 to earn silver in the men's 100 back, edging fellow Panther
Ivan Adamchuk, who turned in a time of 46.40 to top his own
Division II-best mark (47.12) this season. Additionally,
Marwane Sebbata (19.50) placed fourth in the men's 50 free, followed closely by
Lucas Mineur (19.76) in 11th.
Bergum placed second in the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:11.78 -- the top Division II time this season to date.
The Panthers women's 400 medley relay team of
Nikol Maniko, Alyssa Freimanis, Yevheniia Zhukova and Ashlyn Moore also recorded a competitive swim of 3:46.44 to place 10th, while the Drury men's squad, consisting of Reece Blackett, Elliot Weber, Yuri Cabral and Matteo Vissotto turned in a time of 3:11.88 in the same event to place 10th as well.
