LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Drury bowling turned in a third-place finish in bracket play in a competitive Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge field of 18 collegiate programs at Royal Crest Lanes.
Drury defeated Newman University, 3-2 in a first-round upset of the No. 2 seed under the Baker format. The Panthers took an early lead, winning the first two games, showcasing their potential and strategic gameplay. DU dropped a tiebreaker to Hastings College, however, falling by a final score of 3.5-2.5.
Despite not securing the top spot, which went to Hastings College, Drury's performance was commendable.
Jaycob Felder, a standout bowler for the Panthers, was recognized as the Bowler of the Weekend. With an average of 207.6, Felder finished 13th overall out of a field of 220 bowlers.
"We showed significant improvement from our last outing at Mid-States," Drury head coach
Ted Barbee commented. "They bowled with a lot of resilience in the last two matches against Newman and Hastings, and Felder's performance was exceptional in helping us achieve a top eight finish."
Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to compete next on Nov. 1, at St. Charles Lanes in St. Charles, Mo.
