JOPLIN, Mo. – On Tuesday, Drury dropped a doubleheader to Missouri Southern in Joplin, 4-3 and 3-2 in the Panthers first game since February 8.
Game One, 4-3 MSSU
The Panthers opened the scoring in the doubleheader with a
Victoria Garland single into right field that scored
Sophia Luetticke.
Drury would add to their lead in the third inning when
Natalie Wilks reached first on an error by the Missouri Southern first baseman to score
AJ Agers.
With Drury up 2-0, the Lions would respond in the bottom of the third with four runs of their own, started by a catcher's interference followed up with a bases-clearing single to score three for MSSU.
The fight was not over for the Panthers. Luetticke would open the fourth inning up with a solo home run to narrow the MSSU lead to one. In the final three innings, Drury would leave two runners stranded not able to push across the tying run.
Victoria Garland led the charge offensively with two hits. She also recorded an RBI. Luetticke and Wilks also each had an RBI. In the circle,
AJ Agers started only going three innings giving up four runs, only three earned.
Jordyn Foley came out of the bullpen for the final three innings.
Game Two, 3-2 MSSU
Following the game one loss, Drury was the first to get on the board in game two in the second inning with an RBI from
Taylor Hartsell who scored
Sophia Luetticke from third.
The Lions would answer with two in the third and one in the fourth to take their advantage 3-1.
Drury would score the final run in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded the Panthers were threatening when Luetticke scored
Kelsey Palmer on a ground ball fielder's choice. Drury would end the inning with the bases loaded, ending the scoring with an MSSU win 3-2.
Drury only had two hits in the game, one from
Sophia Luetticke and
Kelsey Palmer.
AJ Agers and
Victoria Garland also drew walks to give the Panthers base runners.
Avery Budde got the start in the circle going 3.2 innings and allowing three runs.
Kaley Adzick came in relief for the final 2.1 innings and was able to strike out three.

Drury will host the Drury Softball Classic starting Friday and will be completed on Sunday. The Panthers open up with Minnesota State-Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth on Friday at Thompson Field at Meador Park.
