Seventh-ranked Augustana travels to Springfield for midweek doubleheader
Coming off a 3-1 weekend, Drury will host #7 Augustana on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Thompson Field in Springfield.
Â
The Panthers opened Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play with a sweep of Lincoln and a split with Missouri S&T last weekend. In the circle,
Kaley Adzick picked up two wins last weekend totaling 6.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts and two earned runs. Offensively,
Taylor Hartsell caused chaos for opposing pitchers, recording seven hits in four games, three of which were extra-base hits.
Â
Augustana started the season 0-3, since then they have gone 12-1 with the last five games being wins. The Vikings are the regaining Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) champions which was their fourth straight. They are led by Desi Cuevas who is hitting .420 in 16 games. Augustana's top pitcher is Grace Glanzer. Glanzer was a first-team all-American as well as the Central Region Pitcher of the Year. The Vikings are currently in a full week in Missouri, playing Northwest Missouri State on Sunday then Drury on Tuesday, followed by a full week in Branson for a spring break tournament hosted at the Branson RecPlex.
Â
Drury and Augustana have played four other times starting in 2023. The Vikings hold a 3-1 record all-time with Drury's only win coming in the most recent game. The Panthers won that game 5-2, which took place exactly a year before Tuesday's meeting. In that win, Adzcik grabbed the win in the circle. She also had two hits along with current Panthers left fielder,
Sophia Luetticke.
Â
Drury will play McKendree and Maryville in Springfield this weekend for four games of league play.
