Drury plays #25 Pitt St on Wednesday in a doubleheader in Springfield
Drury will play their third top-25 doubleheader in the past eight days when #25 Pittsburg State travels to Springfield for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Â
The Panthers enter this week after a 4-2 week with wins over #8 Augustana, #20 McKendree, and Maryville. In the split against McKendree,
AJ Agers walked it off in the eighth inning, for Drury's third walk-off of the season. The Panthers would have a run rule walk-off against Maryville on Sunday for their fourth.
Sophia Luetticke broke and extended the longest hit streak in Drury history at 21 games this past week. Luetticke has also moved into third all-time in stolen bases at Drury with 45. She is 10 stolen bases behind Kari Hilleburg. The run
Landry Cochran is on for the Panthers is one of the best in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Cochran has reached base in seven straight games. In game two against Maryville she tied the Drury single-game record for hits and runs scored both at four. The combo at the top of the Drury lineup has caused opposing pitchers to work with runners on base early in games.
Â
Pittsburg State entered the top 25 for the first time this season after receiving votes since the first poll. The Gorillas are on a seven-game winning streak with five wins coming via run rule in the fifth inning. As a team, Pitt St is seventh in the nation in batting average at .364. The Gorillas are led by all-American outfielder Heather Arnett. Arnett is second in the country in average with a .564 and is fifth with 26 steals. The pitching staff for Pitt St this season has thrown three no-hitters including two in one day at the Washburn Invitational against Minnesota State-Mankato and Maryville.
Â
After the doubleheader, Drury will travel to Indianapolis for a doubleheader against the Greyhounds on March 22.
