ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Wes Laaker's three-hit shutout in game two of a doubleheader at Maryville helped Drury to a split with the Saints on Sunday in St. Louis.
Drury went to 5-9 while Maryville went to 4-6 as the two teams split a four-game weekend non-conference series.
The Panthers lost game one as the Saints broke open a 2-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Wyatt Morgan went 2 for 3 with a double and run scored, while
Jackson Crider also had a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI.
Cole Christman was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a home run for the Saints.
Braden Smith (1-1) got the win for Maryville, going six innings allowing six hits and one run with no walks and eight strikeouts. Makell Dixon (0-1) took the loss for Drury.
Wes Laaker (1-2) got the win in game two, firing a three-hit shutout. The senior from Godfrey, Illinois, was four outs away from a no-hitter in the seven-inning game as he struck out nine, allowed no walks and only three hits.
The game was scoreless until the sixth, when the Panthers scored twice.
Jackson Crider led off the inning with a single, reached second on an error, then third on a sacrifice bunt by
Gabe Russell. Crider scored on
Connor Bain's ground ball, and Drury tacked on another run on an infield single by
Kaden Byrne.
Crider's hit extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Drury plays again on Wednesday at 3 pm in Warrensburg at fourth-ranked Central Missouri.
