TAHLEQUAH, Okla.— The Drury Panthers won for the ninth time in their last 11 games with an 8-4 win at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Friday.
The Panthers improved to 13-11 and dropped the RiverHawks to 10-13.
Trailing 1-0 after two innings,
Connor Bain launched a three-run home run in the top of the third to give Drury the lead. The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning, scoring on a solo homer by
Cannon Stuckey, and then an RBI single by
Jackson Crider.
Northeastern State pulled within two with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Drury responded with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Wyatt Morgan,
Gabe Russell, and Crider all had two hits in the game for the Panthers.
Gage Hayes improved to 4-0 on the year as he picked up the win for Drury. Hayes worked six innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, two earned runs, and three walks with six strikeouts.
Brady Childs pitched three scoreless innings for his second save. Gus Collins (3-3) took the loss for Northeastern State.
The non-conference game was the first in a four-game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm in Tahlequah then the series concludes on Sunday in Springfield with a 3 pm game at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
