Drury's game one rally sets up doubleheader split at Quincy

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury rallied to win game one at Quincy, 13-11, but lost game two 20-1 to split with the Hawks on Friday in Quincy, Illinois. The doubleheader started a four-game series, and Drury will enter the second half of the road set 17-12 and 7-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy went to 12-16 and 5-5 and the league.

Game One
Drury trailed 11-5 after five innings in game one of the doubleheader but rallied to win by two. The Panthers scored a run in the seventh, two more in the eighth, then stole the game with five runs in the ninth.

Landon Willbrand sparked Drury's rally in the top of the ninth with an RBI double. Wyatt Morgan followed with another double to pull the Panthers within a run of the lead. Jackson Crider then belted a two-run home run to put Drury in front 12-11. Drury tacked on another run as Hesston Gray's single gave the Panthers a two-run lead.

Crider finished the game going 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Carter Wambach also had four hits, going 4 for 5 with a homer and two RBIs. Eight of Drury's nine starters had at least one hit as the Panthers banged out 20 hits in the game and had nine extra-base hits.

Kade Biellier (3-0) got the win in relief, going four innings and giving up four hits, two runs, and no earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts. Brady Childs pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get his third save. Seth West (0-1) took the loss for Quincy.

The win extended Drury's winning streak to six and was their 13th win in their last 15 contests.

Game Two
Quincy took the second game 20-1.

The Hawks scored eight runs in the first inning and belted six home runs to go with 20 hits.

Quincy lead-off hitter Matt Mateo hit three homers while going 5 for 5 at the plate with five runs and six RBIs. Harry Fandre hit a first-inning grand slam and drove in five runs, while Carson Moreno had four RBIs and was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double.

Cody Bahl (0-3) returned from an injury for his first start in more than a month and took the loss. Roman Harrison (3-1) held the Panthers to two hits and one run and picked up a complete-game win.

Friday's doubleheader was created due to the threat of inclement weather on Sunday, and the two teams will play another twin-bill on Saturday starting at noon in Quincy, Illinois.
