QUINCY, Ill.— For the second straight day, Drury rallied from behind in their last at-bat to win game one of a doubleheader on their way to a split at Quincy on Saturday. The Panthers won game one 8-7 and another comeback effort fell short in an 11-8 loss in game two. Drury ended the day 18-13 and 8-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy went to 13-17 and 6-6 in the GLVC. The two teams played back-to-back doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday to avoid the threat of inclement weather on Sunday.
Game One
Drury stole game one as they went to their final at-bat trailing 7-2 and the Panthers were down to their final out when they put up six runs to grab the lead and the game.
Drury loaded the bases with one out, but Quincy got a strikeout to move within one out of closing the game.
Logan Reidelberger gave the Panthers some life, however, with a double that drove in two runs.
Landon Willbrand followed with an RBI single that cut Quincy's lead to 7-5.
Luke Matschiner then blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Panthers in front 8-7, capping a six-run inning with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Luc Fuller retired all three Quincy batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first save.
Klayton Kiser (1-0) got the win in relief after going 0.1 innings and facing just two batters. Logan Mueller (1-2) took the loss for the Hawks.
Connor Bain went 2 for 4 for Drury with a run and an RBI.
Harry Fandre hit three home runs in the game for Quincy.
Game Two
Drury almost came back from a large deficit to win game two. Quincy scored six runs in the first inning and led 8-0 after four innings, but the Panthers chipped away to pull within three runs of the lead before falling short.
Drury didn't get on the board until the sixth when
Wyatt Morgan hit a two-run homer. Trailing 10-2 in the seventh, the Panthers got back in the game with a grand slam by
Cannon Stuckey. Drury added a run in the eighth and another in the ninth but fell by three runs.
Wyatt Morgan went 4 for 6 in the game with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Kade Ruffner (2-2) got the win, David Kelliher earned his second save, and Markel Dixon (1-2) took the loss.
Both teams also split Friday's doubleheader to end the four-game series at 2-2.
Drury returns home for a non-conference game on Tuesday against Pittsburg State. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park in Springfield.
