Panthers steal one from Flyers in GLVC dual

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury split with the league-leading Lewis Flyers on Friday to move to 9-5 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play. Lewis took game one 8-5, but the Panthers held off the Flyers for a 4-3 win in game two. Drury went to 16-16 and 9-5 in the league, while Lewis went to 24-12 and 10-2 in the GLVC.

GAME ONE
Lewis cracked the scoreboard first with a single run in the first and then added to their total in the third with a three-spot to give the Flyers a 4-0 lead.

Entering the fifth with a 4-0 lead, Lewis tacked three more on to their lead before Drury crossed the plate.

In the last six games, Drury has scored 21 runs in the fifth inning and added to that today with three more. AJ Agers started the inning with a single, followed by Brooklyn LaChappa reaching on an error. Victoria Garland was hit by the pitch to load the bases for Gabrielle Bax. Bax singled into right field to score Agers and LaChappa. Garland would score the next at-bat when Sophia Luetticke reached first on an error during a bunt.

Still battling a 7-3 deficit, the Panthers closed the Lewis lead to two in the sixth inning. Taylor Hartsell kickstarted the inning with an infield single before Agers doubled to score Hartsell from first. Agers would score when LaChappa singled into right field.

The Flyers scored once more in the seventh to end the scoring at 8-5.

AJ Agers went 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Drury offensively. Gabrielle Bax and Sophia Luetticke each had RBIs in the game. Agers went the complete game in the circle, giving up eight runs and striking three out. She falls to 4-4 on the season.

GAME TWO
In game one, Drury's offense took until the fifth inning to get rolling. Game two was a different story. The Panthers started the game with a hit from Sophia Luetticke before she advanced to second on a sac bunt from Landry Cochran. She would steal third and score on the same play following a throwing error for Lewis' catcher.

Sophia Luetticke got the third inning started with another single. She would steal second and be awarded third after an obstruction call. A single from Taylor Hartsell would score Luetticke to move the Panthers' advantage to two.

The Flyers scored in the top of the fourth for their first run of the game after a lead-off triple. Drury answered with their third and fourth runs of the game in the bottom half. Jordyn Foley and Sophia Luetticke both knocked in runners in the inning.

Lewis fought back in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to tie the game at one run, but their effort was too little, too late. Drury took game two, 4-3.

Sophia Luetticke and Isabel Ervin both had multiple hits for Drury. The RBIs were sprinkled around the lineup from Luettike, Hartsell, and Foley. Jordyn Foley was the winning pitcher for Drury to move to 3-6 on the season. Foley allowed 10 hits while striking out six. Four of the six strikeouts from Foley came to end innings.
