Drury gets a Senior Day sweep over Upper Iowa

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury swept Upper Iowa on Senior Day at Thompson Field in Springfield. The Panthers took game one, 3-2, and game two, 8-1, to improve to 18-16. The losses for the Peacocks drop them to 11-18.
 
GAME ONE
Drury cracked the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second. Brooklyn LaChappa walked to advance AJ Agers to second base. The next batter, Victoria Garland, singled into left field to advance LaChappa to third but Agers was thrown out at the plate trying to take an extra base. LaChappa would score the following pitch on a wild throw from the Peacocks' pitcher.
 
The Panthers would score twice more in the fourth inning. A Taylor Hartsell double started the inning. AJ Agers followed that up with a single to move Hartsell to third. Upper Iowa recorded two outs but could not get Isabel Ervin out on a single that scored both Hartsell and Agers.
 
The Peacocks kept fighting and were able to get their two runs in the sixth inning on two hits and two errors from Drury. The Peacocks stranded three runs in the inning giving Drury the 3-2 win.
 
Taylor Hartsell was 3-3 in the game with one run scored. As a team, Drury had nine hits. AJ Agers pitched her second complete game in as many days. On 126 pitches, Agers struck two out and only walked one.
 
GAME TWO
Brooklyn LaChappa opened the scoring in game two with a single to score Taylor Hartsell in the first inning.
 
In the second, Sophia Luetticke would add to the Drury total on a single from Landry Cochran, 2-0.
 
Upper Iowa did not allow Drury to score in the third, but the Panthers got back on their scoring ways in the fourth, putting up a three spot. Landry Cochran and Victoria Garland recorded RBIs in the inning to force a pitching change from the Peacocks.
 
The Peacocks scored their lone run in the fifth inning on a single off the middle, which was unearned due to an earlier error.
 
Drury closed the scoring in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs. Gabrielle Bax, Sophia Luetticke, and Taylor Hartsell loaded the bases for AJ Agers who doubled into right field for two RBIs. Brooklyn LaChappa would ground into a fielder's choice the next at-bat to score Hartsell. Drury takes game two, 8-1.
 
On her Senior Day, Brooklyn LaChappa picked up three hits and two RBIs in the game-two win. Gabrielle Bax and Landry Cochran each had two hits. Jordyn Foley threw her second straight complete game and second straight win in the circle. Foley struck three out on 114 pitches.
 
UP NEXT
The next time the Panthers will hit the diamond will be April 5 at Truman State for a doubleheader starting at noon.
