SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury completes the sweep of William Jewell in a shortened 15-5 win on Sunday afternoon.
Jewell scored in their half of the first to take an early 1-0 lead, but that did not last long. Drury put up one run in each of the first, second, and third innings, with two RBIs from
Gabe Russell and an RBI from
Landon Willbrand.
The Cardinals would score three runs between the third and fourth innings to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. A
Connor Bain sac fly to score
Jackson Crider would tie it.
After another answer from Jewell in the sixth inning, putting the Panthers behind 5-4, Drury answered with three runs to bust the game open.
Kaden Byrne started the inning with a ground-rule double. He would score on a passed ball following a
Landon Willbrand single. A fielder's choice would score Willbrand. The final run in the inning would come from a
Gabe Russell single to score
Wyatt Morgan.
Six runs in the seventh and two in the eighth would give Drury the run-rule win over Jewell, 15-5.
Gabe Russell led the offensive charge going 4-5 with five RBIs.
Paul Pratte and
Landon Willbrand also tailed multiple hits.
Wesley Laaker went five strong innings for the Panthers on the bump, striking out five.
Nick Panagos recorded his first win of the season in 1.1 innings of relief.
Kade Biellier earned his first save of the season in a five-out appearance after coming in in the seventh inning.
Drury will head to Joplin on Wednesday to play Missouri Southern in a single game starting at 6 pm.
