Panthers drop first game of series at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo.— Drury opened a four-game series at Missouri S&T with an 11-7 loss to the Miners on Friday afternoon in Rolla, Missouri.
 
The Panthers fell to 19-18 and 9-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Missouri S&T went to 20-13 and 12-9 in the league.
 
Drury opened the game with a two-run home run from Hesston Gray in the top of the first inning, but the Miners tied the game with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.
 
The two teams exchanged runs in the fourth, then a wild pitch put Missouri S&T in front in the fifth inning. The Miners broke the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits and they took advantage of a Panthers error as four of the runs were unearned in the frame.
 
Drury threatened with four runs in the eighth, but the Miners held off Drury for a four-run win.
 
Gray went 2 for 4 in the game with a home run, his third of the year, a double and two RBIs. Landon Willbrand also had a pair of hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
 
Drew Baugus went 4 for 5 with three runs, two RBIs and three stolen bases for the Miners.
 
Ethan Morrow (4-2) got the win for Missouri S&T, Bode Gebbink picked up his second save, and Cody Bahl (1-4) took the loss for Drury.  
 
The series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon in Rolla.
