Panthers split one-run games at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo.— Drury split a doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Saturday, with both games decided by a run as the Panthers won game one 5-4 and fell short 2-1 in the second game in Rolla, Missouri.
 
Drury ended the day 20-19 and 10-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Miners went to 21-14 and 13-10 in the GLVC.
 
Game One
Drury won the first game of the doubleheader after rallying for four runs in the sixth inning. Trailing 2-1 going into the sixth, the Panthers scored four times to take the lead.
 
Hesston Gray reached base on an error to start the inning and later scored on a single by Kaden Byrne to tie the game at 2-2. Two runs then scored on a Paul Pratte infield single and an error at third base to give Drury a 4-2 lead. The Panthers tacked on another run with an RBI single by Luke Matschiner.
 
Missouri S&T scored twice in their last at-bat, but Drury reliever Luc Fuller recorded the two final outs and picked up the save with the tying run at third and the winning run at second base.
 
Zach McKinnis (2-2) got the win in relief for Drury while Fuller earned his second save. Cody Hazzard (1-2) took the loss for the Miners.
 
Matschiner went 2 for 4 for Drury with two RBIs, while Byrne went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
 
Game Two
Drury dropped the second game in a 2-1 pitching duel that was completed in 98 minutes.
 
The Panthers trailed 1-0 going into the sixth inning but tied the game on a ground ball by Gabe Russell that scored Connor Flieg from third base.
 
Missouri S&T went back in front 2-1 on an infield single by Bricen Smith that drove in a runner from third.
 
Jake Schisler (4-3) got the win for the Miners, going 6.2 innings, allowing only three hits and one run with three walks and three strikeouts. Gage Hayes (4-1) took his first loss of the season despite allowing only four hits and two runs with one walk and three strikeouts. Lucas Riebeling got the final out of the game for his first save.
 

The four-game series concludes on Sunday with a game at noon in Rolla, Missouri.
