Drury's win streak runs to nine games in sweep of Jewell; Luetticke sets new single-season record

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury took two from William Jewell on Sunday to win their eighth and ninth game in a row. The Panthers improved to 27-17 with the Cardinals falling to 22-22.

GAME ONE
Sophia Luetticke had a lead-off walk for Drury in the first inning. She would then steal second on the very next pitch. The stolen base was Luetticke's 38th stolen base of the season, setting a new single-season mark passing Stacy Razo who stole 37 in 2012.

Drury would cross the plate for the first time in the second inning, scoring two. An error while Avery Budde was hitting would load the bases for Gabrielle Bax. Bax would hit a sac fly to score Victoria Garland. Sophia Luetticke would then single to left field to score Kelsey Palmer from second.

William Jewell did not give the Panthers any trouble until the seventh inning. The Cardinals singled with the bases loaded to score one run. Natalie Wilks then came out of the bullpen for Drury and finished the game with two straight outs, giving Drury the 2-1 win.

Brooklyn LaChappa had two of the seven Drury hits in the game. AJ Agers got the start in the circle and went 5.1 innings before an injury forced Agers to move to third base. Agers did secure the win and improved to 9-5 on the season. Avery Budde threw one inning before Natalie Wilks picked up her first save.

GAME TWO
Neither team could get anything started in the first two and a half innings of the second game. In the bottom of the third Madi Divis singled to center field on the first pitch of the inning. She was run for by Kenna Trower. A bunt single from Sophia Luetticke moved Trower to second. Two batters later, AJ Agers would single to score Trower, putting runners on the corners. Kaley Adzick would double to left field to score Agers and Luetticke, giving Drury a 3-0 lead.

William Jewell would score two of their own in the fifth on a single from Amanda Chung.

The one-run disadvantage for the Cardinals did not last long. Sophia Luetticke led off the bottom of the fifth reaching second on a throwing error by the shortstop. Landry Cochran would then hit her second homer of the season a few pitches later to put Drury up 5-2.

The Cardinals had no answer in the sixth, but the Panthers wanted to extend their advantage. Brooklyn LaChappa led the sixth off with a single. Victoria Garland would hit Drury's second homer in as many innings to move the lead to five runs, 7-2.

Jewell threatened in the seventh inning, scoring one run but Natalie Wilks shut them down, propelling Drury to a 7-3 win.

Sophia Luetticke and Brooklyn LaChappa accounted for four of Drury's ten hits in the second game. Landry Cochran, AJ Agers, Kaley Adzick, and Victoria Garland all had RBIs in the game. Jordyn Foley got the start in the circle, throwing two innings, striking two out, and allowing four hits. Natalie Wilks picked up the win to improve to 5-2. She threw five innings, allowing three runs and eight hits.

NOTES
The game-one win clinched Drury a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament. With two steals on the day, Sophia Luetticke is now two stolen bases away from breaking the Drury career stolen base record; she now has 66 in three seasons. With Lewis losing both games to Maryville today, Drury is now tied with Lewis at the top of the GLVC, both with five losses.
