Drury opens UIndy series with a doubleheader sweep

INDIANAPOLIS—Drury opened up their weekend series at Indianapolis with two wins over the Greyhounds. The Panthers won 8-5 and 8-1. The two wins improve Drury to 23-19 and drop Indianapolis to 20-17.

GAME ONE
The Panthers cracked the scoresheet first in the second inning. A leadoff double from Hesston Gray followed by Connor Bain repeating the action gave Drury a 1-0 lead. Connor Bain would then score on a wild pitch from second to move the advantage to two runs.

Indianapolis tightened the game on the first batter of the second inning with a homer.

The Greyhounds would then take the lead in the third inning with a two-RBI single with the bases loaded.

Wyatt Morgan answered the 3-2 deficit with an RBI double of his own while Kaden Byrne was on first to tie it.

Drury doubled their run total in the fifth inning. A Landon Willbrand single would load the bases for Kaden Byrne. Byrne singled to center field to score Hesston Gray. Two batters later, Wyatt Morgan singled up the middle to score Willbrand and Bain.

A Greyhound two-run homer in the fifth made it 6-5.

Hesston Gray ended the scoring in the eighth inning with a double that cleared the bases, allowing Gabe Russell and Jackson Crider to score. The Greyhounds threatened in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score on Luc Fuller. Drury grabbed the series opener, 8-5.

Connor Bain had three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI to pace Drury offensively. Cody Bahl started on the bump for the Panthers throwing seven innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits while striking eight out. Luc Fuller got his fourth save of the season in two innings.

GAME TWO
The Panthers struck first in game two. Drury loaded the bases for Paul Pratte to be hit by the pitch and allow Hesston Gray to score. Wyatt Morgan would then single to score Connor Bain.

Both offenses went quiet until the fourth inning when a lead-off triple and a sac fly scored Indianapolis' only run of the game.

In the top of the fifth, Paul Pratte and Luke Matschiner reached base to bring up Jackson Crider. Crider would then hit his ninth home run of the season to give Drury a 5-1 advantage.

Drury added their final three runs in the sixth inning. Paul Pratte would be walked for the third time in the game. The walk rolled the lineup to the top and brought Wyatt Morgan up. Morgan would proceed to hit a no-doubt homer. Luke Matschiner would double, and Jackson Crider would get hit by the pitch to bring up Gabe Russell, who hit a sac fly to score Matschiner for the game's final run of the game, 8-1.

Wyatt Morgan had three hits and three RBIs in game two. The first four batters in Drury's lineup accounted for eight of the nine hits in the game. Gage Hayes got the game two start and threw his third complete game of the season. Hayes allowed one run on five hits and struck five out.
