KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Drury swept Truman State in Kirksville on Saturday, 2-1 and 4-3, to pick up their 20th and 21st wins of the season. The Bulldogs dropped to 18-21.
GAME ONE
Drury and Truman both had a slow start to the doubleheader opener. The Panthers only had two runners reach base in the first three innings. The Bulldogs had four in that same frame.
The Panthers struck first in the fourth inning.
AJ Agers would reach on a fielder's choice. Agers would advance to second on a
Brooklyn LaChappa groundout.
Victoria Garland knocked Agers in on a double down the left-field line.
Truman threatened to tie it up in the bottom half of the fourth, but
AJ Agers stranded two Bulldogs on first and third.
Drury extended their lead in the sixth on a
Brooklyn LaChappa double that scored
Taylor Hartsell from second base.
Entering the bottom of the seventh, Truman trailed 2-0 but closed the gap after an error from
Reece Anderson allowed Truman to get their first run. The next three Bulldog batters put the ball in play but they all resulted in an out, giving Drury the 2-1 win.
There were five Panthers that recorded one hit.
Brooklyn LaChappa and
Victoria Garland each had an RBI.
Sophia Luetticke did not reach base in the game ending her 33-game on-base streak.
AJ Agers pitched her seventh straight complete game and improved her record in the circle to 6-5.
GAME TWO
Landry Cochran crossed the plate in the first inning on an
AJ Agers RBI to give Drury an early 1-0 lead.
Truman answered the Panthers lead with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the first to take the lead.
Trailing by one entering the second,
Victoria Garland tied it up on a leadoff homer.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom half of the second. A leadoff double forced a pitching change for Drury putting
Natalie Wilks in. Wilks' first batter would double to knock in one run, giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.
The third inning was quiet in runs.
Victoria Garland tied it in fourth with her second solo homer of the game to knot it at 3.
Drury took the lead in the fifth on a
Landry Cochran double that scored
Sophia Luetticke after she was walked and stole second. The run closed the scoring with Drury in front 4-3.
Landry Cochran led the way for Drury offensively going 3-4.
Victoria Garland had two home runs in the game. It was the first time this season Drury had multiple home runs in a game.
Jordyn Foley started in the circle going one inning, allowing three runs.
Natalie Wilks relieved Foley throwing four shut-out innings allowing seven hits. She received the win to improve to 4-2.
Kaley Adzick threw the final two innings for a six-out save.
UP NEXT
Drury will close their road trip at Quincy for a doubleheader starting at noon tomorrow.
