NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Drury had two golfers shoot under-par scores and is in a second place tie after the first round of the Ken Partridge Invitational, hosted by the University of Indianapolis at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, on Sunday.
The Panthers are three-under par as a team after 18 holes and are two shots behind 22nd ranked Wayne State for the tournament lead in the 20-team field. Drury is tied with 18th ranked Missouri S&T for second and lead fourth ranked Grand Valley State by one shot for fourth place.
Gaige Lewis opened the tournament firing a four-under par 68, the 11th lowest total in 18 holes in program history. The sophomore from Springfield-Kickapoo is tied for second place and is one shot off the tournament lead in a field of 112 players going into the second round tomorrow. Hunter Jowers is tied for fourth at three-under par and posted four birdies on Sunday.
Alex Wiseman is one-over par and is in 35th after shooting a 73. Ellton Bostrom is in 59th at three-over par, and Wil Claywell is in 92nd at six-over par.
Playing as an individual, Drury's Skyler Syverson is in 59th at three-over par.
Manuel Cue from Grand Valley State is in the tournament lead at five-under par, but has Drury's Lewis and one other golfer one shot back. Jowers is among six others who are two shots back at three-under par.
Drury's team score of 285 matches their ninth-best single round in team history.
The second round of the three-round tournament is scheduled for Monday morning. The event concludes with the third and final round on Tuesday.
