INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) has announced its 2024-25 Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholars, with Drury University setting a new program record as 57 student-athletes earned the prestigious honor.
 
Named in recognition of Brother James Gaffney, FSC—former President of Lewis University and a two-term Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents—the award is presented annually to student-athletes competing in GLVC-sponsored sports who achieve a perfect 4.0 grade point average over the course of the academic year.
 
This marks the sixth consecutive year Drury has had at least 30 student-athletes receive the award.
 
Among the repeat honorees from the previous academic year were Tyler Harris, Kyle Keltner, and James Sly from men's cross country/track & field; AJ Agers from softball; Cayden Meyer from men's soccer; Anna Harris, Elena Perez, and Keva Culkin from women's soccer; Claire Conover from women's swimming and diving; Jamie Gomez-Gillamon and Alejandro Villarejo from men's swimming and diving; Ewa Samberger from women's tennis; and Kayli Duncan and Kaitlin Fasbender from volleyball.
 
Additionally, Alexis Workman (women's cross country/track & field) earned the Brother James Gaffney honor for the fourth time in her career.
 
Drury's men's swimming and diving program led all teams with 10 student-athletes named to the list. In total, nine different Drury programs had at least three honorees, and 16 of the university's 18 GLVC-sponsored sports were represented.
 
The GLVC is announcing its 2024-25 academic awards throughout the week. Earlier, the league revealed its Team Academic Award winners and Academic All-GLVC honorees, with Drury earning recognition in both categories.
