Panthers Find First Win of the Season, Defeating Maryville 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury men's soccer earned its first win of the season Friday, defeating Maryville 2-1.
 
The first half started slowly for the Panthers. Goalkeeper Camden Meyer was forced to make a save in the eighth minute after Maryville had the first shot of the game. The Saints kept pressing and found a goal in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead. 
 
Drury responded in the 37th minute when a shot by Owen Price got blocked and fell to Mattheo Ledoux, who scored with a first-time strike to tie the game 1-1. Maryville had the last chance of the half with a shot in the 42nd minute. 
 
The action picked up in the second half. Joe Loughnane opened the second half with a shot in the 48th minute. Both teams were trading shots in a back-and-forth battle. Camden Meyer continued to keep the game level, and shots from Liam Olson and Lui Bull forced blocks from the defense. 
 
In the 79th minute, Sam Tagg played a pass to Lui Bull, who cut inside and put the ball in the top left corner to put the Panthers up 2-1. With 10 minutes left, Drury packed it in to see out the win. Camden Meyer saved a shot in the 88thminute to preserve the Panthers' lead. Lui Bull tried to find his second in the last minute with a shot that hit the crossbar in the last minute. The match ended seconds later as the Panthers celebrated their first win.

"I thought we got what we deserved tonight," said head coach Ben Taylor. "Coming from behind shows a lot of character, and we found some momentum that we haven't found yet his year. We've been close to winning big games, so it's great to win this one."
