Volleyball Extends GLVC Win Streak With Sweep of Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – Drury volleyball stretched its Great Lakes Valley Conference win streak to three with a straight-set victory over Quincy (25-15, 26-24, 25-14) Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Arena.

Drury (14-4, 5-2 GLVC) hit .360 as a team in the opening set, then rallied from a four-point deficit to outlast the Hawks for a 26-24 decision in a second set that featured nine ties and four lead changes before sealing its third consecutive GLVC sweep with a decisive third-set win.

Gracie Kimrey led the DU offense with eight kills on .500 hitting, while Skylar Hilton added six kills and seven blocks for the Panthers. The Panthers turned in another strong defensive effort, as the Hawks hit just .139 as a team while committing 19 attack errors.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Drury, which hit a GLVC season high .339 in Friday's win over UIS, continued its hot hitting early in Saturday's matchup, posting a .429 team hitting percentage in a 25-15 opening-set win.
  • The Panthers jumped out to a 6-1 lead, thanks to a trio of early Quincy errors, then extended its advantage to as many as 11 points, as the Hawks committed 14 total errors in the opening set.
  • DU once again established an early advantage in the second set, riding a pair of Kimrey kills to a 6-2 lead.
  • The Hawks responded with a 14-6 spurt to claim a 16-12 edge -- their largest of the match -- before Drury rallied late, winning six of seven poi6nts to seize a 22-21 lead.
  • QU claimed the next three points to earn a pair of set points, but the Panthers bounced back to close out the set on a 4-0 run behind kills from Kimrey and Abby Renshaw.
  • DU limited the Hawks to .069 hitting in the third stanza, seizing control of the set with a 9-0 run; Kimrey's kill snapped a 10-10 tie, before three aces from Amelia White propeled the Panthers to a 19-10 cushion.
  • Quincy would get no closer than that the rest of the way, as Hilton helped close out the set with a pair of kills down the stretch.
