No. 11 Men's Soccer Secures 1-0 Road Win over Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – No. 11 Drury men's soccer picked up a 1-0 road win over Upper Iowa in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play Sunday afternoon.

The Peacocks opened the match with a shot from Alejandro Suarez in the second minute that missed right of the goal. Caua Nascimento responded for Drury in the fifth minute with an attempt that also missed the target. Lui Bull and Steen Voller continued the early pressure for the Panthers, forcing saves from Upper Iowa goalkeeper Noah Nymark-Pedersen in the seventh and 12th minutes.

Drury broke through in the 38th minute when Gui Maia delivered a free kick into the box that found Cameron Chamberlain, who headed the ball into the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Upper Iowa looked to respond in the 41st minute, but Ben Barnett came up with a key save to preserve the advantage heading into halftime.

The first scoring opportunity of the second half came in the 57th minute when Bull sent a shot left of the goal. The Panthers continued to push for a second goal, but David Huang and Nascimento were denied by Nymark-Pedersen in the 67th and 68th minutes. Upper Iowa nearly found the equalizer in the 69th minute with a shot that struck the woodwork before another attempt struck the post in the 80th minute. Barnett was called upon for one final save in the 87th minute, as Drury held off the Peacocks to secure the 1-0 road victory.
