SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury extended its winning streak to three matches on Saturday afternoon at Lake Country in Springfield with a 2-1 win over Maryville.
A slow first half changed in the blink of an eye when the Saints took advantage of Drury in the 45th minute, scoring just before halftime off the foot of Isabella Moilanen.
Drury responded right out of the half. Following a missed penalty kick by the Panthers, taken by
Leah McDonald, Drury got another opportunity shortly after in the 51st minute.
Carly Swan took the ball to the corner after a collision with a Maryville defender and laid a cross right to the foot of
Bella Hernandez, who fired it past Agnes Vilen to knot the game at one.
The Panthers took the lead not long after the Hernandez goal. The Saints committed a foul just inside the Drury defensive zone in the 55th minute, allowing
Katy Fitzler to take the free kick. Fitzler placed the ball to Hernandez, who used her head to find
Keira Love in the box. Love missed her first attempt but put away the rebound past the diving Vilen to give Drury a 2-1 advantage.
After the Love goal, the Saints increased their offensive pressure over the final 34 minutes, taking six shots to Drury's none. Four of Maryville's final six shots were on goal, but Fitzler made the necessary saves to secure the Drury win.
